PIR Motion Sensors

Do you have an idea for a device that you think Freetronics should create? Discuss your ideas here! Sometimes we may even give you a sneak peek at secret projects we have in the pipeline, or ask for feedback on designs before they go into production.

Hi, would you be able to recommend a PIR Motion Sensor module for a Eleven R3 board? Thanks.

There's a few out there - the points of difference will be the operation voltage and the angle of view. If you're looking for the simplest electrical connection, you'll need one with a simple <=5V logic output. Example:

If you're interested in connecting more than one PIR you may find our new shield of interest:

Without knowing exactly what hardware you have it's a little difficult to say, however your sketch will monitor a digital input (connected to the signal from the PIR) and when it goes HIGH your board will be programmed to do something - until a signal comes from the reed switch (connected to another digital input).

If you're new to the world of Arduino we recommend a book such as "Arduino Workshop" which covers these topics and much more:
