MIT App Inventor 2 Home Auto

Post by James » Fri Jul 29, 2016 9:54 am

Hi All

Creating a home automation project controlling lights at home.

Any detailed tutorials out there to control my etherten pins via android app? High/Low

In particular the 'Blocks' part of the MIT App inventor.

Don't mind if the there is an on button and off button to make it easier. ( I believe this will only send a signal to the etherten (high/low command))?
Also Can this be done just inserting the URL address into the App inventor? And not using an external web control website like teledruino?

Once I have sorted this part of my project I will then move to a web control website (teledruino best one? OpenHAB maybe? $$?) and more complicated android app that will alter the state of the buttons and look to tx/rx info from the etherten. OR do people suggest I go straight for this option? I will definitely need a comprehensive tutorial for this though.

Any help is much appreciated.

James

Hi James,

It's great to hear about the project you are working on. It sounds very cool!

I don't have much experience working with MIT App inventor but if you are looking for a solution that "Just works" can I suggest hosting a web server/page on your EtherTen and controlling your light based on buttons / hyperlink within your app. Using a website rather than a native app is great because it instantly works on all devices.

You should find the following links useful:

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have anymore questions!
