SD Card hot swap

Post by Stylmast » Thu Oct 23, 2014 2:03 pm

Is it possible to hot swap SD cards or do I have to power down the board first. ( Etherten)
The reason for this request is that I'm playing around with ajax gauges and I'm using 2 SD card
so I can make small changes and check the results. Just a little quicker than 1 card.

Hi Stylix,

It is possible (I do it all the time) but the sketch program needs to call SD.begin() again. You can accomplish by pressing the reset button, uploading a new sketch, or by detecting errors in the sketch and then manually invoking SD.begin().

In theory it should be possible to also use the Card Detect line for this, unfortunately it hasn't been working reliably in recent models of the EtherTen so we don't recommend it.

Thanks for that, that will make life alittle easier for me. Whilst I workout my gauge problems and programming.
