Newbie needs a kick start..

I have the Freetronics quickstart guide and I have installed the USB driver OK.

I have the latest Arduino IDE (what does IDE mean, anyway?) v 1.0.1

I see a blue LED, permanently on.

I did see the adjacent red LED flash. If I press the reset switch I ged a ripple of flashes and then one flash of one second. That is all.

The Freetronics notes says the blink sketch is preloaded and the red LED will flash at one second intervals, plural.

The note refers to V0022.

So...
Do I have a problem understanding this?

Have I got a dud EtherTen?

Is v1.0.1 too new?

Did I stuff up the sequence of installation? The Freetronics USB driver instructions appear to conflict with the EtherTen getting started notes.

I have now gone ahead and loaded Blink from the Arduino 1.0.1. It works fine. I guess the programme was not preloaded after all, or perhaps something weas dodgy with it....

FWIW#1 For those who don't know, I now know what IDE stands for - Integrated Development Environment

FWIW#2 Serial Monitor is a feedback to your PC screen. T o select, go to Tools>Serial Monitor. Below is a modification I made to blink by pinching a couple of lines from SPI Barometric Pressure Sensor that uses this. This must be the first new language I have used in about 35 years.

The yellow TX LED now flashes in unison with red LED and a message is written on the little monitor as well. I assume this is a kosher way of doing it. I'm surprised by the amount of heat in the board.

yea my etherten didnt have a preloaded program either.
Had me worried for a second!
