Driving a 4 wire unipolar stepper with the H-Bridge Shield

Post by khendar » Sat Aug 02, 2014 9:30 am

Howdy.

My local electronics store has a very limited selection of stepper motors. The only stepper they have in stock is a unipolar. The page for the H-Bridge says that it can drive bipolar steppers.

I'm wondering if the H-Bridge can drive a unipolar or if I have to find a bipolar ?

It is possible to use 6- or 8-wire unipolars by running it as a bipolar... however the wiring and sketches are different. It would be preferable to use a bipolar motor.

As it turns out I can't count and the stepper that I was looking at was actually a 5-wire model.

I've switched to a standard DC motor for the time being until I can order a decent stepper from online.
