Eleven and stepper motor problem

Post by pjhunt2011 » Wed Oct 02, 2013 11:56 pm

Hi folks,

Let me describe what I'm doing, and any help is greatly appreciated.

I am building a camera slider for timelapse photography.

I have the following setup: ( pic is here http://imgur.com/9JWT6r5 )

The motor:

The motor shield:

http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Motor_Shield_V1.0

The shield is plugged directly into the Eleven, the 4 wire motor is wired to the shield, and the whole lot is powered by a 12V 7.2A battery.

Currently my Eleven code requests 1 rev CW and 1 rev CCW. Just to measure the distance travelled on the rail for 1 rev.

But.......it does about 5 or 6 revs, starts to slow down and then stops.

I disconnect the battery, wait a minute, and then the same happens.

Not sure where I have gone wrong here, any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

andrew

From what I can see, the motor minimum voltage is 12V, and there may be some voltage loss between the power supply (the battery) and what is fed to the motor by the shield. Apparently the L298 has a voltage drop of 2.5~3.7V. Otherwise ask Seeed support for more help with their motor shield.

Update: I didnt get any joy on the Seed forum, so I popped into Jaycar and got a Freetronics motor shield.

Everything works perfectly now :-)
