Ep 4: Making home automation gear run quietly

Post by jonoxer » Sat Nov 10, 2012 5:01 am

I put this vid up a while ago now, and totally forgot to mention it here! Oh well, better late than never.

I've found that the second-hand Ethernet switches I use in my home automation system have annoyingly loud fans, so I modified them to run the fans more slowly and connect to my Arduino-based environmental monitoring system.

The video is up now on YouTube:

Hi Jon,

Sometime back your ethernet switch died and at the time I tweeted to you was it from overheating due to reduced airflow; did you ever find out whether that was the cause?

Cheers

Andrew
