Leostick and GPS module

Post by jasonwall » Fri May 13, 2016 10:17 am

Hi.

Can the Leostick be used with the GPS module? I am wondering if it can get the data stream using the USB RX & TX pins rather than an RS232 RX & TX as it doesn't look like the Leostick has these pins?

Thanks in advance,

Jason.

Hi Jason,

The LeoStick has both USB/Serial (embedded USB) and a hardware serial port, so you can connect the GPS module to the RX & TX pins (RX=D0, TX=D1). In your sketch, "Serial" is the USB connection to the computer. Use Serial1 for the RX & TX pins.

More information can be found here: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Reference/Serial

(Remember that the LeoStick I/O voltage is 5V, but the GPS module might be 3.3V serial. You can use a level converter to interface them: http://www.freetronics.com.au/products/ ... ter-module

Thanks Angus. I hadn't realized there was a reply to this thread and had actually forgotten I posted it a while ago! I actually found it in a Google search for leostick and GPS under my name...
Anyway, I am finally looking to get into my Geofenced RF transmitter module for my car again, so I'll have a read through this info and see what I can get happening. As long as they can work together I'll go buy a GPS module for testing purposes :)

Thanks heaps for your help.

Jason.
