leostick not installing on xp

Post by preludefan » Sun Apr 14, 2013 9:23 pm

hi all,

im new to this forum, have just brought a slow breathing leostick v1.1 and cannot get it to install on xp, though it will install ok and work on win 7 64 bit.

i have installed the usb driver ok, and when i plug it in, the coms list in device manager sees it as :"freetronics leostick bets on com 12", then after the bootloader is done, it gets bumped out of the coms list into other devices as an arduino leonardo, yet when i show it either the drivers i downloaded from the freetronics site or the original leonardo driver from the arduino ide, it fails to install....

can anyone offer me a few pointers?

thanks in advance

mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your patience with this. I've identified the issue with the LeoStick profile that I believe is causing the problem, should have an update for you tomorrow.

Hi Mike,

I have a new version of the LeoStick board profile ready for testing.

Can you please download this v3.0 board profile and unzip it in your Arduino\hardware directory (same as the existing board profiles.)

If you have existing board profiles (either LeoStick_v1 or LeoStick_v2) then you'll need to delete them from the hardware directory (this new board profile contains both versions.)

Once you restart the Arduino IDE you should be able to upload successfully.

For the very first upload, while your LeoStick still shows up as "Arduino Leonardo", you'll need to manually press the Reset button immediately after you click the Upload button. You shouldn't need to do this again after a sketch compiled with the new profile is running on the LeoStick.

Please let me know how you go.

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00

in hardware i have deleted both leostick profiles and put the new file in the hearware folder, inside another called "leostick"
have tried restarting the ide but no joy :(...

this is on winxp sp2 32 bit....

Hi Mike,

Thanks for bearing with us. I've posted another version of the board profile here. Can you please download that one and try it out?

great news, this does work (3.1) once the code loads for the first time, found new hardware pops up and installs a serial usb driver...

however, one has to push the reset button 3 times during the compile sketch time to allow the bootloader enough time to get a simple program to the chip...one idea is to have an adjustable bootloader time to prevent this, but other than that,

working on

xp service pack 3 (mine is tiny xp rev09)

thanks for your support!!!

one more thing,

i still do have to push the reset button loading a program, even if i restart the ide...
this can make things a little difficult if you have a slow thumb drive... but otherwise all good!

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear it's getting closer to fully working! So what happens now if you upload without pressing reset?

"serial com port 12 not found, retry the upload from another serial port?"
