Thanks Andrew,
I've got some 5v 3amp wall worts kicking around I'll give those a go when I'm done programming. Can 5v 3am go in series or should I give them each a power supply? Sorry I know its a relatively researched question with these panels but I'm looking for your opinion because you know your stuff.

5V 3a to each display, and connect the GNDs of each display together and to the Arduino.

Thanks again Andrew.

I've purchased a 5v 4amp power supply to power the 3 DMDs. Works great!

Do you know anyone powering DMDs using batteries? If not, that's okay, just a thought.

I'm sure it's possible reliably so would be interested to compare notes if/when you find a solution. We've had some challenges where the cells are okay with outputting the current required, but we've melted the plastic housing of battery pack terminals due to the heat when the current gets high for extended periods. We've proven this is possible even with just one DMD panel displaying full height text only.

You can run DMDs from battery power, however some thought needs to go into the battery type, the regulator and wiring as well.

The battery used needs to be able to stand a high discharge rate, for example something like:

You can draw up to 7.2A in one hour. Next, a power regulator that can deal with the high current and conversion to 5V.
We haven't tried it, but here is a random example:

Finally, ensure all the power wiring and terminals can deal with the current you are drawing. Nice and thick cables. You can calcualte the size to use with a calculator such as:
http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm

Cheers Mate. I'm going to hold off on the battery power for now until I find out if the scoreboard is bright enough. Its hard to tell what the performance is going to be like with all that draw...
