DMD Portable Power options

Hey DMDers, Stable 5V at high current is difficult to provide, although the nice thing about the DMDs is they'll take whatever current you can give - it's just the brightness that varies. My 3 panel DMD scoreboard is (under) powered by a 12V 2.2amp/hour gel cell (Jaycar) and originally a 5V 3A regul...

Re: Experimenters Kit coming soon

It's live on the Jaycar website! http://jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=XC4262

I'll give it a few days before collecting one for my son though, to ensure they have stock :-)

Re: Experimenters Kit coming soon

Well, that and the Jaycar catalogue...

Look forward to it. I'm assembling photos and code of my portable soccer scoreboard project, so I'll post that soon too (3x DMDs)

Re: Sorry for the silence

Great to hear you are on the mend, I did wonder why it was so quiet around here.

Best of luck with your recovery, and I hope you're back making stuff soon. Perhaps a optimal hospital round scheduler :-)

Re: DMD & Tweet

The main issue is the IR head is a bit too subject to strong IR, and doesn't work well in broad Australian Daylight. In the evening under house lighting, great. I've not tried it, but the "Robox Arduino Compatible IR Direction Sensor Module" may allow faster tracking since you won't need to physica...

Re: Chained DMD Addressing?

Thanks Dennis, that's great -- so my 3x1 layout that ends up having "panel3" (64-,0-) connected to the Arduino is correct. It would help if there was a link to your diagram from the product page. Marc? Jon? I powered on two panels last night connected to a 4A supply and blinded myself, can't wait to...

Chained DMD Addressing?

Hi, Have I wired it wrong, somehow, or is Pixel 1 of a two DMD chain (2 across) on the left of the second panel (end of chain), with pixel 33 the first one attached to the computer. It all works, but I figure I must have got it backwards somewhere? I imagined it was a flat linear address structure. ...

Re: Chained DMDs on low power?

Thanks Wombat. I think I had the plugs wrong on the extension link -- I've created some new IDC cables and they worked first time off USB. It's not bright, but does mostly work with a few flickering pixels. 2 is deffo the limit though. The included cable seems to transpose pin 1? I'm new to IDC conn...

Chained DMDs on low power?

Hi, Just a quick question -- are multiple chained DMDs supposed to work when connected to USB power (via a Freetronics Eleven)? The first one lights up okay, but the second doesn't. I *think* I've got the link cable connected correctly. Both DMDs work fine independently. Also curiously, they've got ...

Re: Analog out on D13

Be aware that the red led is on D13 (PC7) which is not PWM capable. (The D9 (green led) and D10 (blue) are). That's true, but it doesn't explain how the startup/boot sketch manages to do it... the red definitely fades in and out while the main sketch loads. But how can that be if D13 is not PWM cap...
