Re: Two adjacent LEDs trigger simultaneously

Geoff,

Have you tried setting all LEDs to each colour and checking that each LED works on each of its 3 colours?

If that doesn't point you in the right direction, then try each LED individually on each colour and check the result. That should at least narrow down where the problem lies.

A simple way to do fixed graphics (or a BIG font) on a DMD

It is possible to use a font to handle non-animated DMD graphics. In fact it is a really easy way to do it. The same approach can be used to display full screen characters on a vertical DMD (32 pixels high by 16 pixels wide). Or anything else for that matter. We can define a font like this one: #inc...

Re: DMD Duplicate Panels

Aussie_Wombat,

I don't think so. The first DMD will not output anything to the second until it has received the full set of data. That is the way shift registers work.

Re: DMD Duplicate Panels

Wayne2Sanders, I agree with stryker - All the connections between the DMD and the Arduino are one-way. There is no handshaking or anything similar going on. And there should be plenty of drive from the Arduino data lines to handle the load of 2 DMDs in parallel. But definitely use a good solid 5V su...

Re: Multiple Marquee running simultaneously

Hi urbantigerau, The short answer is that you can't. In order to achieve what you are looking for, you will have to significantly modify the DMD library. It's certainly technically possible, but is not a trivial task. Have you considered splitting the unit into 2 set of 2 DMDs each with their own Ar...

Re: DMD Brightness control

chriss, I'm not sure what you mean by "all I get is a dmd display that just turns off" and "basically turns off" Does it display anything at all when you are trying to use the brightness control? When does it go off? The pulldown resistor will hold the display OFF and the OE lead will then enable th...

Re: direction of scrolling text

Hi blaster, The DMD library available at https://github.com/cjd/DMD has this feature built in. dmd.stepMarquee(int amountX, int amountY) is used in the sketch loop to step the scrolling display. using -1 for "amountX" (and 0 for amountY) scrolls right to left, using +1 for "amountX" scrolls left to ...

Re: DMD Brightness control

burkey, These DMDs are VERY bright. I don't think the lack of brightness will be a problem, especially with an indoor application. I have found that the opposite is the case - they are too bright in many situations, hence the effort to provide some control. If you are questioning whether or not the ...

Re: DMD Notes

stryker, You need to be a little careful here with a 16 pixel high font. If you want to have the descenders (as used on lower case g, j, p, q, y) you need to have a couple of pixels available below the bottom line of the other 'normal' characters. That effectively reduces the font size. Of course yo...

Re: DMD Brightness control

I probably should add a little more detail on this one. There are many ways to manipulate the state on the Output Enable line and control the PWM. However, by using things like digitalWrite(), disabling the PWM (Timer1.disablePwm( )), direct hardware control (PORTB = ??), etc, I could not achieve a ...
