Pre-made IDC 2x8 cable to daisy-chain DMD cables?

Hi, I'm trying to daisy-chain multiple DMD displays together. My understanding is that I just need 16-way ribbon cable, with IDC 2x8 connectors on the end. I tried making my own using ribbon cable and IDC crimp connectors with a vise - however, I couldn't seem to get the connectors to line up perfec...

Re: New beta release "DMD2" Library

Hi, I've noticed something strange - when I use dmd.begin() in my sketch, it seems to cause the time I get from the RTC module (using DS3232RTC.h) to go all over the place - more details here: http://forum.freetronics.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6051&p=13202#p13202 Has anybody tried using the RTC modul...

Re: RTC Module - time appears to jump around randomly?

Hi, Ok, I've found something strange - it seems to be something to do with my dmd.begin() line. The below code will print out the time correctly to the Serial Monitor: /* Countdown on a single DMD display */ #include <SPI.h> #include <DMD2.h> #include <fonts/SystemFont5x7.h> #include <SoftI2C.h> // ...

Re: avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Hi, I just thought I'd post a follow-up. So previously, I received the error in my original problem description when trying to flash from my Macbook Pro, trying Arduino 1.0.5, 1.5.7 and the latest Nightly. I installed the latest Arduino nightly IDE on a new machine (Macbook Air on OSX 10.9.4). Board...

Re: RTC Module - time appears to jump around randomly?

Hi John, Thanks for the instructions. I downloaded that file, and I seem to be getting the correct time in my Serial Monitor with that sketch: 6:Day of week:Monday 6:41:05 2/1/0 Day of week:Monday 6:41:06 2/1/0 Day of week:Monday Day of week:Monday 6:41:04 2/1/0 Day of week:Monday 6:41:05 2/1/0 Day ...

RTC Module - time appears to jump around randomly?

Hi, I'm trying to use the RTC module with the DMD module to build a wall clock. I'm attempting to retrieve the time, as per the quickstart guide (http://www.freetronics.com/pages/rtc-real-time-clock-module-quickstart-guide): rtc.readTime(&time); Serial.print(time.hour, DEC); Serial.print(":"); Seria...

Re: New beta release "DMD2" Library

Hi, Would it be possible to add a shorter version of Droid Sans to DMD2? Currently, I'm using the included Droid_Sans_12 font. However, this uses 9 pixels for the vertical height. The DMD2 has 16 vertical pixels, so this leaves 7 pixels if you want a second row of text, which isn't enough. It would ...

Re: avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Hi, I can confirm that I have board set to "Aruduino Uno", and port set to "/dev/tty.usbmodem1421". Programmer was previously set to "AVRISP mkII", I've now changed it to "AVR ISP". The first time I tried uploading DMD2/countdown again, I get: https://gist.github.com/victorhooi/402647d5f82a7f8fa93e ...

Re: avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Hi, I have now downloaded Arduino 1.0.5, and I'm trying to upload DMD2/Countdown. I get the same message: Binary sketch size: 11,554 bytes (of a 32,256 byte maximum) Binary sketch size: 11,554 bytes (of a 32,256 byte maximum) avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding http://i.imgur.com/Rg...

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Hi, I have a EtherTen board, and I am attempting to load the dmd_demo example sketch from the DMD package. I have tried both Arduino 1.5.7 and the latest nightly (2014-08-31). This is on OSX 10.9.4. For Arduino 1.5.7, I had to use the old Java 6 package, as the Java 7 package doesn't work with OSX 1...
