Ok thanks. Just one more thing. I can see the LCD is attached to the back PCB thru a row of soldered stuff. Considering I'm only interested in the display and not the buttons, do you think it's possible to hack the shield for using just the digital pins? Know if anyone has tried? As you know real es...

Is it possible to hack the LCD shield?
Sparkfun sell LCD displays that uses just Tx, +5v and Gnd using a serial input board.

Kind of. You're right about the pins 11, 12 and 13.

What I meant is adjacent to the extra analogue pins on the Mega the pins are labeled "communication". Will these accommodate the LCD shield?
